I have now entered the world of "College" and it is difficult for me to maintain all these blogs. Actually I don't know how I did it before I enrolled in school. It has been difficult to come back as often as I would like. I think of this more as "condensing" my blog.<br /><br />Mental Stimulation was one of the first blogs I did in 2006. Man, I didn't realize my butt has been sitting in this chairl that long. I probably have a carton of hemorrodial creme stuck somewhere. This was my baby and like most Moms, we don't want to have to see our babies go away, however all good things must come to an end.<br /><br />I have started a NEW blog "<a href="http://doingit4me.blogspot.com/">Doing It 4 Me</a>," which will focus more on my College life. I told you I was condensing. I hope my followers who have graced my presence these last couple of years take that journey with me to my new blog.<br /><br />This one will have a little more substance, as I made it into a journal of sorts....you know my daily runnings in the world of Academia.<br /><br />So follow Iriegal in her crazy College life....man, my life could really be this good sitcom. Well, the pickup arrangement fell through. She tried calling the daycare center and could not get through. So she drives over there and hears her son screaming inside.<br /><br />Now I was a daycare provider for many years and stories like this sicken me. I tell you it is so hard to fell comfortable when you leave your children at daycare facilities. You don't know what is going on. Well, I was always a fan of "Charlotte's Web" growing up, so when I saw the spider I just went for it. Wait, I guess that is the other way around, <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Feedburner</span> has merged with Google.<br /><br />Anyway here was their (<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">FEEDBURNER's</span>) explanation why.<br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Why is <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">FeedBurner</span> merging its product with <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Google's</span>? </span> <p>Our vision when <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">FeedBurner</span> joined Google was to help bring the best of what <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">FeedBurner</span> offered in syndication publisher tools and solutions to the AdSense platform, and vice <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">versa</span>. I had to work today, but my supervisor took the time to stop and turn on the television so we could see the swearing in. I thought that was so nice. It is an historic event. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>It made me cry though because my mother and so many others have passed away and have not had the privilege to witness this event. My mother came to this country in 1941. She worked for many years scrubbing folks <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">toilets</span> and kitchens in Boston, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Massachusetts</span>. I never knew any of this. When she adopted us she faced so many stereotypes. He she was a single mom trying to raise twins in an era where Black Americans were just coming into their own.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>My mother rose up above many challenges and received her nursing degree and became a homeowner in a country where in the 1960's doing that was difficult (for people of color). </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>When I saw the President place his hand on the bible and was sworn in, I just started crying. I couldn't help it. So many years we have seem this event time and time again (every 4 years), but today I see a NEW image of America. I see someone who looks like my son, like my daughter, my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">neices</span>, my nephew, a neighbor. As I am typing this I am craving it right now. I don't know what it is about me and seafood. I just love it. Last night I went over my girlfriends house and we just overdosed on crabs. She lives near this Marina in San Francisco and I got some fresh crab right off the dock.<br /><br />The poor crabs didn't have a chance. We took them from their safe haven in the ocean and into our well seasoned pot. She wants to be a museum curator. This is a child who has been singing and dancing all her life. I don't know where the museum curator thing comes in but I am happy for her.<br /><br />The school that accepted her was the <a href="http://www.johncabot.edu/Admissions/Study_Abroad_at_John_Cabot.aspx">John Cabot University in Rome</a>. She has always done well academically. I am so happy for her, but scared for her at the same time. I guess with all the news stories of what has been happening to young girls traveling aboard, I am just a tad bit fearful.<br />My friends tell me I am just being "MOMMA", but I think in any country that is going through their own political issues (and most countries are) that I wanted her to complete her studies here.<br /><br />She qualified for full scholarship (based on her academic history) so that I am happy about. She is so much like me it is scary. I was always the "adventurous" one in my family. Always wanting to explore different places. I love the arts so I guess that is where she gets it from as well.<br /><br />I am so proud of her. She has maintained a 4.0 average for her last 2 years of college. (this while working full time). I think most parents want the best for our children and our wish is that live a healthy and prosperous life towards the road to adulthood. You get caught up in the lives of characters and people that you never met an sometimes some people can't tell the difference between the reality and the fiction.<br /><br />(sorta like blogcatalog discussion..lol)..where folks take things WAY too seriously. So if you want to have NO life but a virtual reality life, I think there would be a good way to go. Okay, I am a little behind times when it comes to the Auction thing. I have so much things I have accumulated over the years I know I need to get rid of some. So my friends suggested why not get a profit in the meantime. So I listed one of my baseball card sets. (see picture above). It was an experience. I am pretty new to all of this but I know I have the products to have a full store. Try collecting cards, sports memorabilia, and barbies from 1987. Yup, not to mention the comic books and other things I need to get rid of.<br /><br />We have one of those EBAY CENTERS by my house, but why am I paying someone to list items I can do myself? They lady has 5 brothers and sisters and her parents have six brothers and sisters (between both of them). The Grandparents also have large families on both sides, so all an all a pretty nice time.<br /><br />We had so much food, good grief! I tell you what I am "tamale" out! ...lol I can't eat another tamale. Worst yet, I had to help roll them, so I KNOW I don't want anymore for right now.<br /><br />After dinner we all sat around and watched "A Christmas Story." (for the umpteenth time). Then we played, "Mexican Train Domino." Which is really fun!<br /><br />Now, comes the retail madness. (that is the reason for the title). So I told him no, its water ...duh..of course it was a water bottle I was holding in my hand. So then he tries to ask me if I come here often. Well, you SEE me working out everytime you come in, so obviously I am here a lot. You know those who follow my crazy life, know that I am single however dating is really the FURTHEST thing from my mind. I kind of smiled at the dude and kept walking. No time for that right now.<br /><br />I decided towards the end of the year to be selfish and just concentrate on myself. The guy that molested my daughter decided to "jump bail" (so I have to contend with that issue), so now I don't know where the case is headed. She (Crystal) is doing well. It was a rough couple of days for her, but she is doing fine now.<br /><br />Exercise, I found, really is an immense stress reliever. This morning it was 29 degrees. In my area that is "freezing." We are use to weather like 50 degrees as the coldest weather.<br /><br />In San Francisco, the National Weather Services says that the overnight temperatures dropped into the 40s. In the higher elevations of the Bay Area it was even chillier, with temperatures in the North Bay hills and Santa Cruz Mountains getting down into the 30s. You have to understand California on the whole is not use to cold, "freezing" weather.<br /><br />It even snowed in our area. Now the last time it snowed in my location was 1998!! The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Capiesh?<br /><br />6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and NewYear's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do.This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.<br /><br />7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair ofshoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?<br /><br />9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.<br /><br />10. That was the question asked on December 3rd. I volunteer at a homeless shelter thrift shop, I have been doing that from April. I have seen so many people who benefit from our shop. The shop is connected with the Opportunity House. <br /> <br />Below is the Mission Statement: <br /> <br /><span style="font-style: italic;">To provide a safe, secure, drug-free and helpful environment for homeless participants to use as a springboard to self-sufficiency and to a productive lifestyle in the community. Opportunity House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, governed by the Vacaville Social Services Corporation. The Board of the VSSC is made up entirely of volunteer community leaders and members of the Vacaville Ministerial Association. The shelter is funded largely through community donations and local charities including the annual Festival of Trees, Texas Hold Em' tournament, the annual spring dinner and the Opportunity House Thrift Store. <br /> <br /><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span>I was shocked when I heard our van was stolen. "It was sitting right here when we left at 10:30 Monday night," said store manager Josh Bragg. "Tuesday morning I went to run an errand and when I came back, I thought my 'hooptie' is gone. <br /> <br />The truck had been donated to the shelter two years ago and was used almost daily. "We used the vehicle to transport goods for clients as they move in and out of the shelter," Bragg explained. "We also use it to pick up donations from other businesses and local families." The donations are sorted and sold in the shelter's thrift store. <br /> <br />The van is an essential part of completing our misson statement. Many people have been helped to transition into permanent housing by transporting the larger furniture in our van. But since HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is commonly transmitted through sex or drug use, people don’t really think of it affecting children. It does, though – and millions of children around the world continue to have their lives damaged by HIV.</p>Many factors attribute to such a huge number deaths in those nations. It is the unavailability of hospitals and good doctors and mainly because they can’t access any facilities like medicines, proper medical care and hygiene, which leads to untimely deaths. So what is to stop a transgender from entering into the MISS UNIVERSE <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">PAGEANT</span> or the MISS WORLD <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">PAGEANT</span>? I was originally going to use <a style="font-style: italic;" href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5081">Twitterfox</a>, but for some reason couldn't get it to be added to my Firefox. It seems to be pretty easy to use. I guess I just have to wait and see. I read the blog an see that some people have problems with it updating regularly.<br /><br />I just found out that on one of my sites, the fee wasn't "parsed" properly. This sucks. I went through <a href="http://feedvalidator.org/">Feed Valiator</a> and it told me what to do to fix the problems. I am tired now though. I couldn't sleep and decided to write. The problem with that is I get carried away writing, have to go to work and now I am tired. Sorry, I haven't felt like coming to this blog lately. I have 7 blogs, however this one is the only "personal" one I have. I guess I try to be upbeat (in light of all the things going on in my life). It is hard sometimes. I keep strong in my faith and prayer is really and essential key.<br /><br />My throat started bleeding last week and I immediately thought my Cancer was returning so I got depressed (what else is new). I realized however, since Man really is the creator of his destiny that I should be more proactive instead of reactive. So, I started on this "healing" quest. This involves mental as well as physical. I decided to do this "internal" cleansing. (which actually involved a colon cleanse.).<br /><br />I know too much information. Well, word to the wise don't do a colon cleanse and go to work (again too much information).<br /><br />I have realized though that I have such wonderful and supportive friends in my life. Not too much family (as most of my family is deceased).<br /><br />To have support around you when you suffer from depression is really a good key. So blogging world "Iriegal" is back on track. The track to positive thinking.<br /><br />I go to the doctor Friday, so please keep me in your prayers. My mother died of breast and lung cancer so this cause means a lot to me. This past July will make it 6 years I am cancer free myself. Yahoo!<br />So many people think (and this goes out to men as well) that I could never get breast cancer. They say, "It doesn't run in my family, so it can never happen to me" Well it CAN HAPPEN TO YOU. Please take the time to examine your breast area (at least weekly) to make sure that everything looks and feels the same. If there is even the slightest feeling of discomfort (aside from those associated with menopause and menstruation) then please go and consult your doctor. God, has given us this one shell (0ur body) and if we take care of it we can live to a long productive life. I mean they will have a "Socks" festival if you let them I suppose that is because I live in the suburbs (and part farm area). Without the festivals we would die of boredom or eat ourselves to death. The only bad thing about the festival was it rained (it was outdoors). So I guess the wine came in handy. Well, because of the diabetes I don't drink as much. A lot of unnecessary calories. The first day we had a cookout to kick things off (did I tell you that folks in my area love to eat). The music was really nice. They played old Elton John (hey always nice to listen to Sir Elton) and some Carly Simon. I am a 70's lover so that was my kind of sound. I hope next year there won't be as much rain. My friends (co-workers) laughed at me because I went to an festival which featured wine and beer and I drank water. I went to our local casino, (<a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.cachecreek.com/">Cache Creek</a>) and spent (and lost) 8 dollars. I have got to be the cheapest gambler around. It was fun though. I had to work that day, so after work my friend invited me to join them (her husband kicked it too) at the Casino.<br /><br />This is such a scenic drive. You go through the lovely mountains of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Yolo</span> County, California. We passed so many fruits stands. You have understand this is an area with lots of fruit trees and produce. We stopped and got some fresh strawberries from a farmer who was selling them by the roadside. I was so excited because I usually have to go to Reno or <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Las</span> Vegas to enjoy the Casino experience. The crazy thing is that it is only about 35 minutes from where I live.<br /><br />When we got there I headed to my favorite spot, the buffet. There was so much food. I actually was a good girl. I filled my plate with veggie and some shrimp scampi. Of course I also went back and got some pork chops, baked chicken and er...<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">nevermind</span> (okay I wasn't THAT good a girl..<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">lol</span>).<br /><br />Then my friend wanted to lose her hard earned money, so she drags me out on the Casino floor. I look around and they have all these "penny" machines. I have to tell you I found out the "hard way" that 100 pennies indeed make a dollar. I managed just to lose 8 dollars. When you are on a "poverty" budget it is not hard to NOT spend money. The best part of the night though was the entertainment. It was a group called, "<a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.pure-ecstasy.com/flash.html">Pure <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Ecstasy</span></a>." They are based out of San Francisco.<br />This is a band which can do every type of music. They mostly do R&amp;B and Jazz. I love smooth jazz sounds, very relaxing. So we watched them for about 3 hours. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Iriegal</span> even got up and danced, that was surprising. I haven't danced in a long time.<br /><br />I did not want to leave. That was so nice of my friends to invite me. I work in a job that I strive for excellent customer service. Working in the Computer Field, I know how important it is to do a good job. Over the years though I see where customer service has all but disappeared.<br /><br />Case in point yesterday I went Circuit City (which is a electronics store), to get some software. I asked the salesperson for the software and he went in the back and brought back the item. The only problem was that it was the wrong item. So I pointed this out to him. Well, why he wanted to get an attitude and tell me, "so you expect me to go in the back again?" er.............YEAH DUDE!<br /><br />It took everything inside of me not to curse him out. I just turned walked away and went and go the "store manager." Let's just say when I finished that I got my software and a free DVD.<br /><br />I mean though do you have to go to the store manager to get good service? What I really hate is when you got to a restaurant and you are sitting for quite awhile just for the waitress or waiter to give you a menu. Then when they give you the menu, they hover over you to rush you to decide. Needless to say their are wonderful treasures there. I came upon this really old stamp album.. Now I am not a philatelist. I buy stamps to mail and that is pretty much my interest in stamps.<br /><br />This person though who donated their stamp album collection was really heavy into collecting. So here I am with this huge collection of stamps and for the life of me I have NO IDEA what to do with them.<br /><br />I went on EBAY but not sure how you sell them. I found a lot before 1922 and read anything prior to 1930 was pretty valuable. I might further investigate tomorrow. I know there must be something I can do with all these old stamps. Some are cancel led. We sometimes spend countless dollars to get our systems fine tuned and up to snuff. Being in the IT business, it has been a love/hate relationship. I love computers. I have loved them for over 20 years.<br /><br />I remember my first system, An IBM Cordota Cs40, which I purchased on the Home Shopping Network. I was so excited when it arrived. This was the technology when you had to boot up your system with the 5 1/4 floppy dish. Their was no 3.5 floppy drive.<br /><br />Life was simpler though. If their was a problem, it really was easy to fix. You didn't have one operating system sitting on top of another one. DOS was not slow for us, it was just right.<br /><br />Fast forward a couple of years. Now fixing a computer is like fixing a foreign car. So many components to check, folks sending you viruses and Trojans (and not condoms) that corrupt your system. It use to (back in the day) take me a couple of minutes to fix a computer, now one can sometimes take days.<br /><br />I worked on one this week, which took me 2 days to fix. It had the mother of all Worms and Viruses on it. It really made me value life, friends and family. So many times we go through our day not really appreciating the small things in life. The small things include a smile, a hug, a kiss, kind words, even just someone holding your hands. These things are things I value in life.<br /><br />I started out my day with a slew of phone calls from friends all over. ( I do have some friends all over the United States and aboard). This really put me in this blessed mode. The day almost took a turn when on my way to meet my friends and family for lunch, I got sick. My blood sugar dropped too low and I almost passed out.<br /><br />This happened while I was looking around in the Target store. I felt <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">whoosy</span> and could barely hold on to the shopping cart. Well, an employee was standing next to me (thank goodness). They (the staff) brought me some <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Chai</span> Tea and a danish. A lifesaver I tell you.<br /><br />Anyway the day got better. I love seafood. I could eat it everyday. I didn't eat crab though. I had Cajun style <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Tilapia</span> and lots of Veggies. My girlfriend actually came by and picked me up from the store so I didn't have to drive to Sacramento by myself. That was so sweet. She picked up her son and we were off to our destination. My daughter soon arrived and another friend from a social site I frequent. Apparently my girlfriend told the staff (when I wasn't looking) that it was my birthday. So they made me gallop around the restaurant with the costume on. I am gonna get this girl. I read one site that suggested if she was 18 and out of school it would "LOOK" better. Look better for who?<br /><br />The fact is that teen pregnancy is on the rise. That we as parents need to go out there and educate both our sons and daughters about the responsibilities of engaging in sexual practices and of course the inevitable conclusions- A baby.<br /><br />Then there is that comparison to Jamie Lynn Spears (Britney's sister-<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">PULLLLEEZE</span>!!). Actually I read today that a source has reported to <a href="http://entertainment.oneindia.in/music/international/2008/jamie-lynn-sarah-palin-daughter-040908.html"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">CelebTV</span>.Com</a> that Jamie Lynn has sent a gift to Bristol <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Palin</span> as a show of support. I guess something like Unwed Teens unite.<br /><br />I feel it is a private matter between Sarah <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Palin</span>, and her family in dealing with her daughters pregnancy. Sometimes we as a society can be very judgmental. Well with a 92% white community having anything diverse is pretty cool. I was only going to stay for about an hour and before you know it I am there from 10am until 4pm. There was just so much fun and the food and music were just to die for.<br /><br />Here are some shots I took.
